#ABArare - Black-headed Gull - Alberta
Alberta's first Black-headed Gull (Code 3) was found by Jukka Jantunen at Pawkowki Lake on July 20. Pawkowki Lake is located about 50 miles (80 km) south-southwest of Medicine Hat, AB. Mike Mulligan refound the bird on the morning of July 21.
Jantunen is a visitor to the province and decided on a whim to stop at the lake to look for pronghorn and American White Pelicans. He writes, "As we were driving on the causeway across the northwest arm of the lake we flushed a flock of gulls roosting on the road. I spotted and immediately IDed the BHGU [Black-headed Gull] by naked eye, jumped out and got the photos as the bird flew away never to be seen again (by us anyway)!"
