American Birding Podcast: Jonathan Meyrav and Champions of the Flyway

The next episode of the American Birding Podcast has just been released!

Bird-trapping and shooting are huge problems around the Mediterranean, which prompted Israeli birder Jonathan Meyrav to create the Champions of the Flyway, a 24 hour bird race in Eilat, Israel, that raises money and awareness to combat the threats to migratory birds in Europe and Africa. Jonathan joins me to talk about Champions, and the great work they are helping to fund.

Also, I talk about ABA Awards and Young Birders of the Year, and John Lowry and ABA President Jeff Gordon discuss an innovative new product from Swarovski.

Thanks to Global Rescue, the ABA’s official emergency evacuation provider, for sponsoring this episode

  • Open Mice: Kestrels–An Iowa Legacy May 16, 2017 6:29
A few years ago, a short drive down my gravel road would yield at least one, if not two, American Kestrels perched on a power line or hovering mid-air above the grassy ditch. Today, I have begun to count myself lucky to drive past a mere one kestrel per week rather than the daily sightings. […]
