Great Backyard Bird Count this weekend!

Are you counting birds this weekend?  The Cornell Lab of Ornithology, the National Audubon Society and Bird Studies Canada hopes you are.

It's a natural fit: eBirders and the Great Backyard Bird Count. We know you're committed to watching birds and recording your sightings in eBird, so we'd like to invite you to share your sightings in the 14th annual Great Backyard Bird Count, February 18-21. The data you submit via either project all goes into the same database. Please continue to enter your sightings in eBird over the weekend, but if you don't mind, please also submit your observations to the GBBC at You will give the project a bump and surely contribute some noteworthy sightings to the GBBC output.

It doesn't just have to your backyard either, for the purposes of this event the entire world is your backyard (though the GBBC is officially just in the US and Canada).  I'll be entering my sightings into eBird per usual, but will enter then in both spots to give my home county a little bump.

608 species were reported last year, just under the record of 635 in 2008.  Can we crack 600 again?  Not without your help.

Get counting!
