#ABArare – Calliope Hummingbird – New Hampshire

On October 6, an unusual hummingbird began visiting Pam Morgan Tremblay’s bird feeder in Manchester, New Hampshire. Recently, the bird was identified as the state’s first Calliope Hummingbird. It is still visiting daily as recently as this morning.

The Tremblays are open to sharing their home with birders interested in seeing this state first, provided birders are respectful and polite (not that it needs to be said, but you know…). Information on how to get to the Tremblay home are available on the New Hampshire listserv here.

Calliope Hummingbird is another common western hummingbird reported with increasing frequency at feeders in the east in fall.  Several Calliope Hummingbirds were recorded in the east last year, including a state first for Delaware.  This year Calliope Hummingbirds have been recorded in Massachusetts and New Jersey in the last week.

New Hampshire is one of the last states in the east to add the species to its official list.
