American Birding Podcast: Hurricane Impacts on Caribbean Birds with Alvaro Jaramillo

The 2017 Hurricane season was notable for the scale of the tropical storms involved and the destruction they caused not only where they made landfall in the United States, but also the islands in the Caribbean that they passed over. The Caribbean is crawling with bird found nowhere else on earth, and Hurricanes Irma and Maria, specifically, took paths that crossed some of those islands with those birds, and the impact of those storms is still not known completely. Joining me this time around is Alvaro Jaramillo of Alvaro’s Adventures. He’s spent time on all these islands and has a lot of insight on the birds there and the unique conservation challenges they face in the wake of these storms.
